Story Board Point 21

Above I have posted my story board in 3 separate pictures.
I have attempted to create 5 different sections in my music video.

Frames 3,4,10,12,14 and 17 are all  part of the lip-sync section. In this section the person pretending to sing is standing in front of a tree. This is done when the lyrics are not very descriptive and/or a person sinning would introduce greater effect.

Frames 1,6,9,13,16, and 18 are all part of the boyhood section where a young version of the singer is enacting the things that are mentioned in the lyrics or an interpretation of it.

Frames 3,7,8,11,and 19 are part of the instrument section which are used as bridges mostly when there are no lyrics and you can hear 1 instrument clearly over all others. They will show a closeup of some piano keys being played or some drums being beaten to the same pace as can be heard in the song.

Frames 15 and 20 are the chorus sections. They also have lip syncing by the singer but this time they are in colour and there is a stream of childhood pictures and footage being played behind him of the young boy as a sort of memory reel.

Frames 21 and 22 are the dissolution section. This is more of a theme of many shorter clips of the 2 main characters leaving as well other things going away such as clouds water cars, etc. it is an open book. For one there will definitely a shot where the main lip-sync walks away from the tree.
Then there will also be the last shot where the face of the older singer fades into the face of the young boy.

Synopsis Point 20

The main character of my music video will be the singer. He wont perform with any instruments or a band but he will be lip syncing the song during the chorus. During the rest of the song he will be the main focus of the narrative. The narrative will follow him retracing his childhood as the lyrics of the song are very nostalgic for the singer. I want to maybe have 1 or 2 scenes where he as an older person looks onto his younger self doing things like playing the guitar which is mentioned in the song quite a lot. During the chorus I want him standing in a very dark room which would then light up as music gets louder and perhaps with the use of a green screen I could use some effects to make the scene unique. Another possibility would be flash childhood memory pictures behind him showing him grow up.

Key elements of my music video. Point 19

Andrew Goodwin states that every music video consists of  6 key features and I have chosen to follow some in the making of my music video.

I want to relate a lot of my visuals of my music video with the lyrics of the song to amplify them as much as possible. This confides with one of Andrew Goodwin's points.
I also want to use lip syncing, intertextuality, relation ship between music and visuals as well as genre specific themes which for me include filters as well as an arty look.

Institution research Point 18

I think you tube would be perfect place for my music video.  It is a video sharing website and app used by millions daily and it is all ready a host to many thousands of music videos from every kind of genre.  Since videos can be watched easily and you can find so many different people using the website I think this would be the perfect place to distribute my music video. Also videos on YouTube can be shared via social media which then in turn shares it with people who are firends with people who also like such videos

Attracting our favourite audience member. Point 17

As my target audience is young alts I have a few things to consider trying to attract them to watch my music video. I will try to achieve three things to attract them.
I want the narrative of my video to be edgy yet light harted, I want to use colour and contrast to create a unique atmosphere that doesn't remind the viewer of any famous pop songs or the like.
I want to use cinematography in unique ways as well auditing effects to give my music video an odd and different feel to it.
I will try to relate to the audience with my main character as I will try to dress him up like a young alt would dress themselves.

Perfect audience member. Point 16

Looking at UK tribes it seems as the perfect audience member and they are most likely the kind of people who will want to watch music videos for my chosen song. The song is by no means mainstream and while being relatively new it is performed by an artist definitely considers retro, these are the sort of things that might entice a young alt to watch the music video.

Young alts are all about being unique and dress to be themselves but also to be comfortable. This is what a young alt could look like.

audience research Point 15

Having conducted a survey asking people what kind of music they liked to listen to, if they watched music videos and what makes or breaks a music video for them here are the results.

The overall favourite music genre most people liked to listen to was pop music but indie and rock were also quite predominant. They said they mostly listen to their music on the radio such as BBC radio 1 or on curated play lists which you can find on spotify.

Overall most people said although they didn't watch music videos regularly, they all liked to watch them.

Most people thought that a music video needed to be continuous and that breaking up the song in between for example to tell a narrative for the music video was bad. A lot of people also said that the overall theme of a music video was important. They liked it more when it was a bit surreal and odd rather than a generic video with a band playing music or only someone singing the song. Overall they felt music videos should add something to the song rather than just being an add-on.

MoodBoard Point 14

I have used images that relate to the lyrics of my song as well as some images I think would suit the mood of the songs and some potential location ideas such as the forest or night time. I think the bed, the radio and the guitar should be seen in the video as they are mentioned a lot in the lyrics of the song and the bedroom should also be in the video at least once. Then I choose an old record player which is something that some of my target audience find inter sting and might own them selves. Lastly there is the font I would want to use if I decide to use one. It looks a lot like handwriting and it has the right feel for this song.

9 key shots Point 12

Top left shot.
This is a medium shot close shot. It is important as it introduces the characters of this music video. Its also shows the location of the them being inside a car. It doesn't give much away from and leaves the audience guessing what is about to happen.
 Top centre shot
This a clear establishing shot in which we see that the video is taking place in a traffic jammed highway. The audience can only assume that the characters first introduced are among these cars stuck in traffic.
Top right shot
This shot is a great example of the use of a panning shot as the camera follows the person leave the cat and step onto the taxi and then the concrete until panning down to show the boy to continue the narrative. This is effective as it shows the audience what the man is doing while staying in one motion. It also helps showing of more of the location
Centre left shot.
This shot shows of multiple people standing outside their cars. It also showcases great use of levels with 1 person on the bridge, 1 on a trailer and 1 one the street. This gives the audience a sense of scale.
Centre centre shot.
This birds eye shot is used to depict the oddness of the music video. It is used to clearly show that the person on lying on top of a cap in the middle of a road. His spread out arms and crossed legs shows that he is just relaxing on top of the roof, this also matches the calmness of the song.
Centre right shot.
This next shot is a close up of the man's face. This shot is used to show the emotion in his expression. This again  fits in with the mood of the song and adds to the narrative of the video.
Bottom left shot
This shot again shows the use of levels ,which draws the audiences attention to different parts of the screen. This shot is also a high angle to show of that all the people are leaving their cars which again is important to the narrative.
Bottom centre shot.
A even higher shot than the previous this is used to show the scale of the narrative as people continue to leave their cars but now you can see both sides of the highway. This again shows the size of this event to the audience.
Bottom right shot.
This is another birds eye shot but this time they used a filter to give the impression of it being TV News footage. This gives the audience a clear different between the music video and post narrative.
