Props and Costumes

I want my cast to wear to casual clothes, which people will wear every day so that my audience could relate to them, so I had just asked them to their normals clothing.

I did not use many props but i had 1 guitar which was held by Fin most of the time.

Location shots

Here are the location where I have choose to shoot my music video and the reason why.

Bruce house mixed com.
A large room where I had space to set up my green screen for filming.Where i had space to set up adequate lighting. This is also where the piano stood which I used for some shots.

Forrest path
This was a long track in a remote looking part of a forest which was not too far away to shoot at. I was looking for a road which was not used by many people with trees lining its side. I used it for the beginning of the video as well as a large part of the lip syndic.

Findhorn
I had shot a lot of footage in the coastal town, it has a large number of different sceneries as well as beach which was good for a variety on shots.

Bruce house
Inside Bruce house i had shot some footage inside a dormitory because it looked like a child's bed room. as well as a generic living room

Casting

The actors in my music videos are 2 brothers. I choose them because they look similar which was good for the effect I wanted which was that of  a yopung boy and his older version singing about his childhood.

Angus Rose-Bristow

He will play the older version of the boy who m,ainly does lip-syncing in the video. He is a good choice for this role since he is an A-Level drama student.

Fin Rose_ Bristow

Fin is a amateur actor, whom I have choosen due to his similarities with his brother but also because of his young age..

Calum McCrae

He plays the piano, I choose him because he was able and willing to play the piano

Animatic

Story Board Point 21

Above I have posted my story board in 3 separate pictures.
I have attempted to create 5 different sections in my music video.

Frames 3,4,10,12,14 and 17 are all  part of the lip-sync section. In this section the person pretending to sing is standing in front of a tree. This is done when the lyrics are not very descriptive and/or a person sinning would introduce greater effect.

Frames 1,6,9,13,16, and 18 are all part of the boyhood section where a young version of the singer is enacting the things that are mentioned in the lyrics or an interpretation of it.

Frames 3,7,8,11,and 19 are part of the instrument section which are used as bridges mostly when there are no lyrics and you can hear 1 instrument clearly over all others. They will show a closeup of some piano keys being played or some drums being beaten to the same pace as can be heard in the song.

Frames 15 and 20 are the chorus sections. They also have lip syncing by the singer but this time they are in colour and there is a stream of childhood pictures and footage being played behind him of the young boy as a sort of memory reel.

Frames 21 and 22 are the dissolution section. This is more of a theme of many shorter clips of the 2 main characters leaving as well other things going away such as clouds water cars, etc. it is an open book. For one there will definitely a shot where the main lip-sync walks away from the tree.
Then there will also be the last shot where the face of the older singer fades into the face of the young boy.

Synopsis Point 20

The main character of my music video will be the singer. He wont perform with any instruments or a band but he will be lip syncing the song during the chorus. During the rest of the song he will be the main focus of the narrative. The narrative will follow him retracing his childhood as the lyrics of the song are very nostalgic for the singer. I want to maybe have 1 or 2 scenes where he as an older person looks onto his younger self doing things like playing the guitar which is mentioned in the song quite a lot. During the chorus I want him standing in a very dark room which would then light up as music gets louder and perhaps with the use of a green screen I could use some effects to make the scene unique. Another possibility would be flash childhood memory pictures behind him showing him grow up.

MoodBoard Point 14

I have used images that relate to the lyrics of my song as well as some images I think would suit the mood of the songs and some potential location ideas such as the forest or night time. I think the bed, the radio and the guitar should be seen in the video as they are mentioned a lot in the lyrics of the song and the bedroom should also be in the video at least once. Then I choose an old record player which is something that some of my target audience find inter sting and might own them selves. Lastly there is the font I would want to use if I decide to use one. It looks a lot like handwriting and it has the right feel for this song.

Permission Point 9

Here is a screen shot of the message I sent to sony music the copyright holders of the song that I want to use.

Things to consider: . Colour Point 8

In my final piece I intend to use various filters to change the colour gradient certain parts of my video to contrast between different narratives and to visualise different moods during different parts of my video. The filters would most likely empathise  cold colours such as blues and whites but I also want to use brighter colours in contrast to those filters as actual physical objects which can draw the viewers attention.

In this video colours are animated to draw attention to specific point on the screen while the rest of the video is in darker filters and made to look like old degraded film. This sort of contrast I also wish to achieve in my music video.

Things to consider: Lip syncing. Point 8

I want to use lip syncing to give my video a sense of professionalism and to emphasize the meaning of the lyrics in my song as I feel they play an important role in my video. Very well edited lip syncing can also look incredibly good and can catch viewers attention as the beginning of this music video shows.

Here the directors used two older men to lip sync to a song clearly sung between two very much younger men who also probably do not dress the same way the the men in this video. This gives this video a sense of comedy added to the professional lip syncing. This isn't something I plan on doing with my videos but I want to use lip syncing to add other emotions to my video.

Things to Consider: Stop motion Point 8

In my final piece I intend to use some stop motion to animated movement. Stop motion is an easy way to simulate movement quickly especially over long distances. It can also be used to emphasise the beats of the song. I want to use primarily as a way to move about my character without having to film him moving which can speed up the narrative and possible also create a secondary narrative.

As an example here is a stop motion video at which such stop motion for is used although at a very professional level.

In this video we follow a boy moving through what seems to be his childhood surrounded by toys from movies and other pop culture mostly from the 90's. The entire video seems to be shot in a form of time laps but made to looks like a very high FPS stop-motion. As the child moves he seems to be standing still but it looks almost as if he was teleporting.

The track for my music video Point 6

I have chosen the song "When I was a Boy" by ELO.

The genre of this song is orchestral rock/rock. The song is by ELO In their previous  music videos tend to have either a narrative or some sort of story line to follow with costumes and settings or they are just playing their instruments but they then have lots of visual effects such as PiP colour filters distortions.

Picture in Picture

Distortion and Filter

A lot of bands in similar genres also often use these traits such as Queens 'I want to break free' where costume is used heavily.
